Saved the Summer of 2005 movies and perhaps the industry as a whole

Post by YoniWorship »

The 2005 year in movies sticks out to me for some reason. It felt like everything was dark and depressing, especially in the summer months when things are supposed to be light and fun. Box office was suffering tremendously. A lot of people speculated that this was finally it, movies were done. But then came Dukes of Hazard. What a breath of fresh air to the dismal summer, reigniting the box office and making people laugh and enjoy movies again in the theater. As for the whole film/theater industry. I remember this was peak Blockbuster and netflix was gaining power. For some reasons this was around the time Blockbuster started going down. I can't prove it yet, but I think it had to do with this movie.

I think 2005 still closed on a down note (oscar nominations were a bore, even King Kong was a disappointment), but this will always remain a bright spot. I don't think this film gets as much credit as it deserves. I hardly hear anyone talk about it anymore.
